What will my donation to Index be used for?

Your donations go entirely towards our investigations, by paying the team. Studying case files, analysing hours of video, modelling a scene in 3D, testing every hypothesis: our work takes time and incurs costs we have to cover. Your donations are what let us keep offering our services free of charge to victims of institutional violence.

Are donations tax-deductible?

Yes. Index is a recognised public-interest association: if you pay tax in France, 66% of your donation is tax-deductible. A donation of €200 therefore actually costs you only €68. Your tax receipt is sent to you automatically by email in March, in time for your tax return.

How do I become a supporter of Index?

With a monthly donation, of any amount, from €3. It is the regularity as much as the sum that lets us plan our investigations and build our financial independence: you hold Supporter status for as long as your monthly donation is active.

With one-off donations, too: as soon as your donations for the year reach €60 in total, you are a Supporter of Index for the whole calendar year, with exactly the same benefits. If this threshold is reached on or after 1 October, the status runs until the end of the following year – so a year-end donation does not come down to just a few weeks of benefits.

The status is recalculated automatically: nothing to request, nothing to renew. It remains yours for as long as your monthly donation is active, or as long as the €60 threshold is reached over the current year.

What exactly is Index?

Index is an independent, non-profit investigation NGO, founded in France in 2020. Index is both an investigative media outlet and an expert analysis practice accessible to victims of institutional violence and abuses of power. Born as an autonomous offshoot of the international research agency Forensic Architecture, it has retained the agency’s team and methods. The team and the board of directors are presented on our About page.
