Police officer to stand trial for murder before the assize court

Published on 3 June 2025

The investigating judges ruled out self-defence and ordered the police officer who fired the fatal shot at Nahel Merzouk to stand trial for murder before the Hauts-de-Seine assize court (cour d’assises) – an exceptional decision in the history of police violence in France. The accused has appealed; the trial is expected in 2026.
