Immersive creation project supported by the CNC

In 2023, Index received support from the Centre National du Cinéma, France’s national film agency, under its Création Immersive programme, to develop a piece that uses immersive technologies to convey its investigations in a sensory, accessible form.
Development of this project proper – an immersive documentary – began in 2024. After testing several set-ups and technologies (virtual reality, augmented reality, etc.), Index chose a collective immersive installation: a scenographic space made up of projection screens, showing investigation sequences re-edited into an immersive documentary narrative.
This format brings together several Index investigations, highlighting both the recurring patterns and the specific features of the incidents documented, as well as the methods and techniques used: audiovisual analysis, image-based investigation, 3D reconstruction.
A prototype of the installation has been completed and submitted to the CNC to close the pre-production phase. Subject to renewed support for production, the work could be completed and presented by the end of 2025.
