Index launches its introductory programme in digital investigation
Published on
As part of its new membership campaign, Index is setting up an online training course devoted to investigation methodology, from gathering sources to 3D reconstruction.
This training course offers a complete overview of the investigation methodology developed by Index.
The programme will help you understand where citizen investigation comes from and what is at stake in it, before introducing you to the various methods Index uses, from audiovisual analysis to 3D reconstruction.
We will look at how to gather sources, analyse and synchronise videos, and then reconstruct a 3D environment from open data, so as to locate every moving element in it: cameras, vehicles, people.
The Introduction to digital investigation programme, in 2 modules:
- Investigating through images, 3 hours, led by Basile Trouillet, video analyst/editor at Index
- Investigating through 3D, 3 hours, led by Guillaume Seyller, investigator/3D modeller at Index
Prerequisites:
This training course is built around hands-on introductory workshops. It is open to everyone, whatever your prior technical experience. To get the most out of it, however, some familiarity with video editing and 3D modelling is preferable.
Equipment: a computer able to run Blender and DaVinci Resolve, a good internet connection, and a headset with microphone. The course takes place on Discord.
Who is this training for?
This course is for anyone who wants to understand the basics of digital investigation and start practising it, with a particular focus on image-based investigation. Journalists, researchers, legal professionals, and activists, but also architects, videographers, graphic designers, developers, and students: everyone will find an angle from which to extend their own skills. An interest in digital tools is desirable; prior experience of OSINT is not required.
Fees
The modules can be booked separately.
- Module 1: €120
- Module 2: €120
- Full introduction (modules 1 + 2): €200
Reminder → Index supporters get an additional 20% discount on the price of training courses!
