Killing of Renée Good by ICE: 3D analysis

On 7 January 2026 in Minneapolis, an ICE agent shot and killed a 37-year-old motorist, Renée Good. Federal authorities immediately invoked self-defence, claiming that she had tried to drive into the agent. Index’s 3D analysis contradicts this account: it shows that the agent was neither in the vehicle’s path nor in immediate danger when the shots were fired.

On 7 January 2026, in Minneapolis, an agent of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) killed Renée Good, a 37-year-old motorist, by firing three shots into her vehicle. Federal authorities immediately claimed self-defence: the driver, they said, had tried to drive into the agent.
Using videos filmed by witnesses, Index reconstructed the scene in three dimensions using photogrammetry and audiovisual analysis. On 21 January 2026, the release of the footage recorded by the phone of Jonathan Ross, the agent who fired, made it possible to complete the model and pin down the position of his body relative to the moving vehicle.
Index’s reconstruction contradicts the federal authorities’ account on three points:
the agent was not in the vehicle’s path when the shots were fired;
he was not struck by the vehicle;
he aimed at vital parts of the driver’s body while not in any immediate danger.
