Minneapolis: Alex Pretti killed by immigration police

US federal immigration police have killed another person in Minneapolis, just days after the death of Renee Nicole Good.

Less than three weeks after the death of Renee Good, killed on 7 January by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis, another killing involving federal immigration police took place in the city. Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old nurse, was shot dead on 24 January by Border Patrol agents while he was filming an arrest in his neighbourhood. From the information available, he was hit several times at point-blank range, and part of the scene was captured on video by witnesses.
Alex Pretti’s death came amid high tension over the presence and methods of immigration police in Minneapolis. On 7 January, Renee Nicole Good, 37, was killed by several bullets fired through the windscreen of her car by agent Jonathan Ross, during an ICE operation in the south of the city. Her death sparked protests and renewed criticism of the deployment of federal agents in the area.
In an investigation published on 9 January, Index released a preliminary 3D model of the scene of Renee Good’s death, detailing the positions of those involved and the trajectory of the shots. This work showed that Good posed no immediate danger to the ICE agent who fired the shots, contrary to the US authorities’ claims.
